I think we should move the sales data to its own article (or just delete), especially since it's pretty outdated. It's kind of interesting for historical purposes, though. — m (talk) 13:27, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, that's the point, innit? It's interesting for historical purposes. (Amusingly, the pub dates almost match up with the retrodating on the Class 101 pages.) -- Corgi 16:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I added a missed and obvious literary reference to the page; but it's possible the intent was to include only those influences attested to by an interview with Phil or Kaja; this intent, if it exists, is not clear, but it's hinted at. --Quadibloc 12:15, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- I did only pull specific references by one or both of them. The whole Frankenstein thing, while quite accurately attributed to Madam Shelley, has become so pervasive a modern mythology that they may have been more impressed by the Karloff rather than the original novel. It'd be a good question to list in our Hopeful Interview, though.
- I'm moving the list to Recommended Reading anyway; we can subdivide between 'Foglio Influences' and 'Fans Also Recommend' or something. -- Corgi 18:07, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
A Completely Inadequate Summary[]
I have long been frustrated that there is no general summary of the story on this wiki for people who are wholly unfamiliar with it. (This is something that is true of almost all wikis I have looked at. They almost always assume that anyone reading them is already familiar with the wiki's subject. This is off-putting to me when I am searching for information on a work or set of works I am completely unfamiliar with.) Of course, the reason for this lack is that writing such a summary well would be incredibly difficult and a complete summary would be quite lengthy. I have taken a shot at a very quick and extremely dirty summary of The First Journey of Agatha Heterodyne. As I say in my introductory paragraph, my intention is not to create a thorough or complete summary, but to try to provide at least a hint of what Girl Genius is all about to someone who has never heard of it before. It may be crap, but I hope it's better than nothing. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 00:00, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please pardon my outburst above. When I re-read anything I have written too many times it seems to lose all appeal. If anyone feels that can take what I have done and improve on it, I more than welcome their efforts. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 02:42, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
