Loremistress Milvistle is or was a Geisterdame. She is yet to appear in person in the comic, but as explained by Lady Vrin to Lucrezia Mongfish (newly installed in Agatha's body), she came to doubt the divinity of the Goddess[1] and saw her as a demon.[2] This led her to apparently be responsible for sabotaging the Europan gateway to the Geister's home and destroying most of The Other's technical plans which the Geisters had brought with them, leading to problems with the construction of a Summoning Engine. Vrin also believes that Milvistle had help.[3]
Milvistle is now, according to Vrin, deceased. However, since Zola later explains (again to Lu-in-Agatha) that her mother kept Milvistle "hidden for years ✣ " while "studying" her, it is possible Milvistle is not dead, still just hidden away and perhaps even a willing part of the Storm King conspiracy (although the timeline is unclear, and this may precede the destruction of the Gate).
The English Spark Francisia Monahan also claims ✣ to have worked with Milvistle, and thus become an expert in Lucrezia's work.
As she has only been mentioned these three times, little is known about her apparently pivotal role in the betrayal of the Other or who her (other) allies might have been, aside from other Geisterdamen who lost faith[4].
Questions and Theories[]
One of the great Girl Genius mysteries is the untold history of Lucrezia as The Other. Given that Loremistress Milvistle is apparently at the center of this mystery, few characters have invited as much lively debate or wilder speculation as has this one.
- Are Milvistle and Jenka in fact the same person?
-
Is Milvistle Gil's mother, Klaus' absent wife? It's pretty certain that Gil's mother is Queen of Skifander. - Is Milvistle the "High Priestess" with whom Barry Heterodyne is traditionally paired?
