From some comments on this forum last Wednesday, I thought that today we were getting a second half of Wednesday's page.
I guess not. 15:11, 25 October 2024 (UTC)200.46.52.10
The first Half and the full two-page spread were published Wednesday. Monday's page will be Volume 25 Page 1. That's not a spoiler, is it? Dperra.sr (talk) 17:10, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Usually two-page spreads are indeed posted online over two days, but Kaja suggested on Patreon that she decided to make an exception this time because the right half by itself doesn't really provide any new information. Bkharvey (talk) 21:04, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, you are not both correct, Svesjo is. A 5 reflected or flipped vertically does look (somewhat) like a 2, but a 5 rotated upside down (180°) does not look like a 2 unless is is also reflected or flipped horizontally. It is impossible that by simply turning the "Take-five Bomb" upside down the glyph shown in the window on the sphere could be transformed from a 5 to a 2. The glyph has actually changed. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 02:42, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Of course your examples do not look anything alike. If it is a two then an assumption that the Take 5 devise has some sort of timer display, for me that is a bit of a stretch. But just for grins find an old calculator with a wire frame display and input 52, then turn it upside down. What do you see?
- Okay, you think that it is a stretch that a device that can stop time itself can also have a timer display? I find that surprising. I am going to make one more attempt to get you to accept the simple fact that a 5 turned upside down does not become a 2, no matter what typeface it it in, even if it is on a calculator with a "wire frame" display. I have created a new image with the digits "5" and "2" displayed in, I believe, the kind of typeface you were referring to. In Figure 1, the "calculator display" is in the normal position. I have labeled the edges of the box containing the "52" so that the original "top", "right", "bottom", and "left" sides can be identified even when it is flipped or rotated. I have also placed the "5" in a rectangle and the "2" in an oval so that it is easy to see which digit is which, even after the image is flipped or rotated. This is important because, in a typeface such as this one, "5" and "2" are rotationally symmetric. That is, if you turn a "5" or a "2" upside down, it looks exactly the same. Please note, a "5" does not look like a "2" when turned upside down, it still looks like a "5", and a "2" still looks like a "2" after being turned upside down. Figure 4 is the display of the calculator turned upside down. Now the "52" looks like a "25". But, because the display is upside down, the "5" is now on the right and it still looks like a "5". The "2" is now on the left, and it still looks like a "2". It is only in Figure 2 and Figure 3, in which the calculator display is flipped (or reflected), that the "5" seems to change into a "2" and the "2" into a "5". -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 03:51, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
This is an unusually silly cover. In the fine print it's labelled "Web Cover," i.e., the cover of the printed volume will be different. I wonder if they're planning a spoilerish print cover (e.g., one indicating that the story is over!) and that's why they gave us this temporary one. Or I guess usually they don't give us a cover at all until the end of the volume, and this pseudo-cover is just a fancy form of filler page. Bkharvey (talk) 21:00, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- My guess is they planned to give the second half of the double page spread as usual but realized it wasn't exciting and didn't show anything significant so they decided on a quick filler. (Super secret spoiler: there's a facial expression in a Klaus in the second half that gives away a major plot point.) (To clarify: JK JK) Argadi (talk) 00:52, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
When I look at today's page together with this page , I wonder: Isn't the shop owner worried that his snap beans can kill him? Svesjo (talk) 19:10, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
The wiki should be ready for volume 25[]
I believe I have made all of the necessary updates so that this wiki is ready for the start of volume 25 on Monday. Since this is the first time I'm doing these updates before the new volume has actually started, it means that some of the new pages are unusually empty, but this will change as soon as the first page of the new volume is officially posted. I don't think I have made any major mistakes and, hopefully, few, if any, minor ones. I did notice one problem with the top navigation menu from previous new volume updates that I fixed and there are other problems I noticed while doing these updates that need fixing. But, as they say, "A wikian's work is never done". Or is it, "There's no rest for the wiki"? -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 16:25, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
A Children s' Book Image Tribute?[]
I have a vague memory of a childrens book, illustrated, showing an adorable Mouse stealing a strawberry. But the Mouse disliked the bitter lemons, & did not eat them. Can anybody remember the title? Bosda Di'Chi (talk) 12:11, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Did it also involve a big hungry bear? Mylorite (talk) 05:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
