Veni, vidi, wiki (I came, I saw, I edited).

And here come the corrupt Deep Dwellers! Zibbiz (talk) 05:10, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

The Deep Dweller MARINES have landed!-- Doug Relyea (talk) 13:13, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

No, they are not Land-dwelling Fighters, who deploy via the Sea.. They are Sea Creatures, fighting on Land. They are Terrains. Bosda Di'Chi 13:19, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
Very good, Bosda Di'Chi! I like this coinage. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 16:39, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

This looks like a job for General Higgs! Time for some Jaeger diplomacy. DLcygnet (talk) 15:16, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

The Coral Creature would make a good Pinata. Open him up & there are prizes inside. Bosda Di'Chi 13:20, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

The elegantly crafted link to the full 2-page spread. It's still funny to me that the Corrupted Cetaceans look like they only have one arm. The deep dwellers don't actually look all that different from their uncorrupted counterparts to me - perhaps being on the inside prevented major changes? Maybe more mental than physical? DLcygnet (talk) 15:58, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

I still think it is too soon to be sure that these creatures are corrupted Great Cetaceans. As far as the creatures seeming to have one arm apiece goes, presumably they have been climbing up the cliff hand over hand and the drawing has caught them just as they are reaching the top and pulling themselves up with whichever hand reached the top first. Or perhaps we are seeing a two-headed creature with both of its arms reaching up over the edge of the cliff. If they ever make it up all the way, then we will know for sure. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 16:36, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
On the first page, I might agree. But after the 2nd? Seriously, how many giant whale-like creatures with arms that carry deep dwellers around in their stomach could there possibly be in the ocean? The Law of Conservation of Detail demands it! DLcygnet (talk) 16:19, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
The problem is that these creatures are tiny if they are supposed to be Great Ceteceans. And the Deepdwellers were carried in Ahnkokanth's buoyancy chamber, not his stomach. I see no reason why the Deepdwellers couldn't also use whales for transport (after all, there must be many places in the oceans that are too shallow for a full-grown GC to venture) or why the Cursed Waters couldn't mutate pectoral fins into arms for an ordinary whale. These creatures may well turn out to be corrupted Great Cetaceans, but I'd like to see some confirmation in the comic before we start treating that as canon in the main part of this wiki. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 17:35, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
That's a misinterpretation of the great one's comment. He is clearly looking UP at the ceiling (his head) where a buoyancy chamber of some sort would normally be located. Whales don't have swim bladders like fish (Neither do sharks or rays), so their buoyancy chamber would have oil/waxy material in it, not breathable air. The submarine had to be swallowed via the mouth (most likely) or sucked into the the blowhole (unlikely while deep underwater during a shockwave) and none of those passageways have direct access to whatever is used for a buoyancy chamber. As for the rest, conclusions have been drawn from lesser evidence. DLcygnet (talk) 17:57, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
I find your interpretation of what Ahnkokanth is referring to when he uses the phrase "buoyancy chamber" to be completely unconvincing. If it is as you say, how can His Serenity see it? Does he have x-ray vision? But this argument has gone beyond being silly. The Great Cetaceans are a fictional creation of the Foglios, who are not known for their scientific rigor in story telling. In fact, the main premise of Girl Genius could be said to be that scientific rigor is irrelevant in the fictional world in which the story takes place. 🔧
I realized immediately after I posted this that the answer to "Does he have x-ray vision?" could easily be "Sure, why not?", especially given His Serenity's comment to Ahnkokanth about seeing a different spectrum. It was silly of me to have continued the arguement at all, especially when I immediately went on to say that it gone beyond the point of silliness. Sorry. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 17:40, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
From a story-telling standpoint, you could well be right when you invoke the Law of Conservation of Detail. (However, I would say that the Law of Conservation of Detail is somewhat inapplicable to Girl Genius as a whole. The story has a tremendous amount of detail and dozens of characters. Clearly, not everything referred to in the story is going to be a key to the plot. Some of the detail is for world-building and atmosphere and much of it is for humorous purposes.) If people want to go ahead and call the creatures coming up the cliffs corrupted Great Cetaceans in the pages in the main part of this wiki, go ahead. I will offer no further objections unless this identification is directly contradicted in the story at some point in the future. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 16:17, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Technical note on double-page speads[]

The two double-page spreads in this volume can't both print properly unless a new page is added between them, since the first starts on an even-numbered page and the second on an odd-numbered page. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 18:13, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Good catch! Have you told them? Bkharvey (talk) 09:39, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I sent the Foglios an email and actually got a nice response from Kaja this time: "Heh. I wondered if someone would notice that. Never fear, it's happened before and it will happen again! I just repair it in time for print when the time comes. Thanks!" 🔧
The way they have always "fixed" this type of problem before is to add a page, so we can expect a new page (or possibly some odd number of new pages greater than one) in this volume at some point before it is printed. In the past the new pages have always been posted to the comic website as well, but sometimes not until after the print edition of the book comes out. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 16:53, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Time windows[]

Not directly related to today's comic, but in case no-one has done that yet I want to call that the time windows from early in the comic are tweaked Queen's Mirrors. — gpvos 20:06, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Pretty severely tweaked, if those massive things can float in midair. Bkharvey (talk) 09:39, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
