Saying "I am Bangladesh Dupree" must avoid a lot of fighting/arguing. Reminds me of Sparafucile's evil grin. Bkharvey (talk) 04:37, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

P.S. Krosp's frown in the last panel is a little ungrateful considering Bang just saved his bacon. Bkharvey (talk) 04:41, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Not exactly a first, Captain Dupree NOT killing someone. (it's not at all clear to me why she didn't finish Lord Jaron, Martellus' chief assassin.) I expect Sparafucile's grin and Captain Dupree's reputation are more related than we've seen so far. Doug Relyea (talk) 05:11, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
She was interrupted by Gil telling her to untie the crew of the sea serpent. Bkharvey (talk) 05:27, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
From the pose she's in, she's acting like he's already subdued in some manner. Considering Jaron cut her the previous time she was distracted, I don't think she'd make the same slip twice.Doug Relyea (talk) 05:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Bang was toying with Jaron. Here was Martellus' dread personal assassin and the only time he even touched her was that surprise cut. The fact that he was begging to be killed is exactly why she didn't. He was in more pain that way. Fred1740 (talk) 00:46, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
Krosp I, Emperor of all Cats, gets no respect, just shot at. Captain Dupree, with the drop of her name, gets instant almost fawning respect. Doug Relyea (talk) 05:13, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Noticed an interesting feature of Bang's new hat. In panels 2 thru 5, it appears to be the hat of the former Captain. In the last frame it now bears a Skull. Doug Relyea (talk) 05:41, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

  • That *is* interesting. Hobitofbree (talk) 05:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Between panels 5 and 6 there has been enough time for someone to bring her rum. Easily long enough to grab what passes for a marker pen in this setting and doodle on the hat to match her bindi. 94.105.97.23 20:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

It's cool to see Bang as something other than just a fighter. I don't think we've seen her be technically competent before. Hobitofbree (talk) 05:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Not in such detail, but she was captaining the Wulfenbach fleet that attacked Sturmhalten, and was on top of the strategic questions in the conversation with Klaus before the attack; also, she did a good job (even though Gil objected to her style of work) in questioning the Circus people while searching for Agatha. (She was taken in by the Circus's plot, but so was Gil, so you can't really count that against her.) Bkharvey (talk) 06:30, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
As I said before, I think Bang and Zeetha might be latent sparks based on a number of moments of clarity or brilliance. Bang's intuition and ability to reason is solid (occasionally there's a false logic trail thrown in, but the reasoning is sound). DLcygnet (talk) 16:39, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Without prejudice to those two cases, I don't think it's ever been suggested that anyone who isn't a spark must be stupid. Dimo, for example, is unlikely to turn out to be a spark. Bkharvey (talk) 22:52, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

And clear the fuse locker! I believe former guy has been demoted to 'ballast'. If we've lost only two gasbags out of ten, we're not so bad. Good to see the Chief is still with us. Only a flesh wound. As for respect, try shouting 'I am Zeetha, daughter of Chump!' and see how far it gets you. -- SpareParts (talk) 13:07, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

It's worth noting that DuPree is also demonstrating that she is more than a psycho. She is a very, very competant Airship Captain, and really knows her onions. Bosda Di'Chi 14:24, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Also, filing my prediction that the Captain is not wasped, but a willing part of Steelgarter & Monahan's plots.PhoenixTalion (talk) 16:19, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

I wonder what "'jacks" (which is a word Bang uses in panel 3) is short for? (I assume it is abbreviated, contracted, or truncated, since it starts with an apostrophe.) Man jacks? Hydraulic jacks? Something else? -- William Ansley (talk) 02:28, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

It's "balloonjacks" , whick I infer to be crewmembers specifically tasked with balloon-related operations. Scientician (talk) 08:22, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! You are a gentlebeing and a scholar! I thought it seemed vaguely familiar, but I never would have placed it without help. -- William Ansley (talk) 00:53, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
