Discussion for comic for 2003-04-16 (Wednesday)

Open and available for discussion.

The current comic reads "What kind of young women did you associate with at school", while the listed quote in the Chronology is "didn't you date at school?" Was this a change on the part of the Foglios? Zibbiz (talk) 04:49, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

I imagine so; it even sounds familiar, but I don't have an old copy (pre-color, let alone pre-web) to check. ⚙Zarchne (talk) 15:02, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Looked around in the Internet Archive for it, but Wayback only has some of the GG101 pages with artwork; there are some of the pre-color Vol I pages, but not the one in question. (Recorded summary of these results on Girl Genius 101.) ⚙Zarchne (talk) 22:50, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm back within reach of my books. The date line is from the black and white version of volume 1, the color version of volume 1 has the associate line. I think the newer version is better. Argadi (talk) 00:28, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
It is even a bit more complicated than that. I have acquired a copy of all of the existing GG comics. (What can I say? I'm obsessed.) I do not have the print edition of the black and white version of the first volume, but I do have the PDF version. In the comic book Girl Genius (Volume One, Issue Three), on page 71, panel two, Klaus's line is: "Red fire boy, didn't you date at school?" So, it seems the print edition of the black and white version of volume 1 possessed by Argadi matches the comic books. But in the PDF edition of the black and white version of volume 1, the same page (which is unnumbered, but which is the seventy-eighth page of the PDF, where the first page [the cover] is numbered one), Klaus's line is: "Red fire boy, what kind of girls did you date at school?" So the PDF edition of the black and white version of volume 1 seems to be a revised, second edition. Finally, in the color version of volume 1 (paperback), on page 76, Klaus's line is: "Red fire boy, what kind of young women did you associate with at school?" This matches the color PDF version of volume 1 as well as the current version of this page online. This isn't the only case where the dialog in the original comic book, the black and white PDF of volume 1, and the color version of volume 1 differs among all three editions. -- 🔧William Ansley (talk) 01:50, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Interesting. Thanks for going to all that effort! Zibbiz (talk) 21:44, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
