Chronology - Volume 2-9

Volume summary: The Chronometric Lantern Expedition

The chronology pages describe the comics to assist scholars in finding the page on which something occurred. For each page of the comic, the chronology pages identify the characters that appear, actions taken, significant quotes, and other things of interest. Page numbers from the website are zero padded to three digits and in parentheses, for example: (005), (061), (113). Page numbers from print volumes are neither, for example: 5, 61, 113. Section titles are from the canon unless otherwise noted.

For historical reasons, volumes 1 (I) through 13 (XIII) are usually identified with Roman numerals on the Girl Genius chronology pages and elsewhere in the wiki. From volume 14 on, the story entered a new "act" and the volume numbers started over, in Arabic numbers, proceeded by a "2-". For example, overall volume 15 is given as volume 2-2 on chronology pages.

	The airship with Agatha and company aboard reaches its destination, a fairly small island, and begins its final descent, as someone announces they are preparing to land. The island's shoreline seems to be entirely made up of steep rocky cliffs and the top is flat and heavily forested, with a small lake (feeding a waterfall down to the ocean) and a few structures appearing among the trees. Some of the structures seem ruinous, but any ruins of the ancient temple complex they are looking for should be so old that they would have disappeared entirely by the present time. And, anyway, the ruins aren't on any of the maps!
	(Shouted) "Hey everybody, we're preparing to land!"

	Agatha observes that the ruins don't look recent and Rakethorn surmises that survey records may have been falsified with Neena agreeing. Bang wonders if the ruins could actually be recently built but look old due to time trickery. Krosp, hearing this, runs to the airship's bridge in a panic and yells at the officers and crew not to land.
	Agatha: "Huh…even so—those ruins sure don't look like they were built yesterday."      ⋮ Bang: "Well, so, maybe all that was built yesterday, sort of. I mean, these guys have some kind of time thingie, right? Who knows what they could be getting up to?"

Mutiny on the Crisp

	Krosp explains that there is a device on the island that can stop time, which gives the people who hold it an insurmountable advantage. But the Captain dismisses Krosp's warning (and Krosp himself) contemptuously, insisting that the airship will still land. A lieutenant(?) on the bridge is swayed by Krosp's warning, but is dismissed in turn. The airship's Chief Officer appears and the lieutenant turns to him for support. The Chief Officer is angry at being locked in his cabin and the fact that the ship is landing. But, before he can say or do anything to stop it, he is shot in the chest by the Captain.
	Krosp: "Listen! The people we're looking for have a device that can stop time! We have to be careful! If we land normally, they can just stroll on board and kill everyone!"

	Krosp accuses the Captain of being a minion of the Other. The Captain seemingly confirms this by trying to shoot Krosp, who dodges. While the shooting and dodging continue, Krosp calls for help. Bang comes to the rescue, literally swinging into action. Seeing his attempts to keep control with a handgun thwarted, the Captain remotely sets off a bomb that destroys two of the airship's gas chambers, making sure the ship will land.

	The explosion was real. The airship was deliberately scuttled, in spectacular fashion, as a distraction. With it still burning in the background, Agatha and company, along with the staff and crew of the HMA Crisp, descend to land or sea dangling from one-man emergency copters. Despite the fact that they are required to keep a very tight grip and hang from one arm, everyone seems to be taking things in stride. Everyone except for Krosp, that is! He is not at all happy, despite the fact that he gets to ride on the shoulders of one of his bears, who is hanging from two copters.
	Violetta: "A nice big 'boom' and a blinding flash always does the trick!"

Violetta and Rakethorn survey their surroundings, spotting some apparent ruins (along with a single lighted building), in the distance, which Rakethorn assumes is their target. As they discuss their next move, Agatha appears with an odd-looking, spidery clank she has just constructed.
	Violetta: "I think we made it down unseen." Rakethorn: "I assume if we'd been seen, we'd be dead." Violetta: "Yeah. No pressure, eh?"

Violetta thinks it smells like wet rotting socks, but Krosp says he smells rats…lots and lots of rats with something really wrong with them.

The Airman's Story

	A frantic Crothers says he is a castaway and begs Agatha to leave him alone. Then, finding out she's not one of the bad guys, he begs her to take him off the island. When Agatha tells him she can't, he grows even more upset, saying they will all be killed. Violetta quizzes him about how long he has been there. Crothers isn't sure; it's been years! He was on an expedition to the Americas in a British airship. The attempt failed and the airship was wrecked. He and ten others survived, drifting for days until encountering the island. As they climbed the cliffs, one airman fell. While the others made it to the top, Crothers climbed down to help the fallen man, but found he was dead. Just as he was about to start climbing up a rope thrown to him by his remaining comrades, they all started screaming. He hid and remained in hiding, even long after the screaming stopped.
	Crothers (shouted): "I—I'm just a humble castaway! I swear! I'm not here to disturb your nefarious plans!" Agatha: "We just got here. We're not with them." Crothers: "You're not? 	Crothers continues his story: After hiding nearly two days, he decided he would rather risk what's at the top of the cliffs than die of thirst and hunger. He was still cautious enough to climb up without using the rope and discovered it was booby trapped. In the darkness, which smelled of blood and death, he spied some lights among the distant ruins, which were guarded by huge shrieking creatures. With no food, water, companions, or safe place to stay, he began to despair. As he pauses in his story, Agatha congratulates Crothers on his survival, but he admits he had help.
	Crothers: "There were lights in the distance, amid the ruins—shouting—and strange noises. Spark stuff. —And it was guarded. Huge creatures roamed the darkness outside. They shrieked and fought each other for scraps of what looked like—well—well. I knew not to go there."

Very venomous: the previously bitten Gark ("earring bear") is incapacitated, and Higgs looks decidedly worse for wear. A loud cat-like yowl interrupts the battle, causing the Horrible Rats to change demeanor.

Their assault on Europa was disrupted by a group of priestesses who doubted the divinity of this particular incarnation of the Lady.

He offers a theory about how it always returns: Key Park is haunted! Egon then asks why Snakkerjape came from abroad to sign up with the moribund Guild of Monsters. Snakkerjape is in the process of responding when he reaches for the key, and is surprised by what he finds.

	Arriving at Key Park, the Figure explains that it is a fragment of Castle Heterodyne, created to isolate memories of an act that the Castle expected would be contrary to the Heterodyne Boys' orders. While the Castle manipulates something on the basin that holds the Key, Snakkerjape asks if the act was related to the destruction of the Guildhall. With a maniacal laugh, the Castle reveals that the Guildhall was never destroyed. The crowd that had been following the duo flee as the Guildhall erupts from the ground below.

While in exile, she met Zeetha's father, who later helped her win back the Skifandrian throne. Queen Zantabraxus' declaration of Ashtara as her patron goddess infuriated the Eshkigax loyalists.

She comes to the belated realization that Violetta is not standing in the light of the Lantern, and has only been feigning being frozen. Before Madwa can act on that realization, Violetta stabs her, takes the Lantern, closes the shutter and ends the frozen time effect.

Lu places her hand against Monahan's head, and blue energy coruscates from her forearm.

	Lunevka: "All of my work on the transfer of consciousness from the organic to the mechanical, and back again- that has been the work of millennia!"
