Revision as of 01:37, 10 April 2021

Volume summary: Volume 8 of Act 2

The chronology pages describe the comics to assist scholars in finding the page on which something occurred. For each page of the comic, the chronology pages identify the characters that appear, actions taken, significant quotes, and other things of interest. Page numbers from the website are zero padded to three digits and in parentheses, for example: (005), (061), (113). Page numbers from print volumes are neither, for example: 5, 61, 113. Section titles are from the canon unless otherwise noted.

For historical reasons, volumes 1 (I) through 13 (XIII) are usually identified with Roman numerals on the Girl Genius chronology pages and elsewhere in the wiki. From volume 14 on, the story entered a new "act" and the volume numbers started over, in Arabic numbers, proceeded by a "2-". For example, overall volume 15 is given as volume 2-2 on chronology pages.

For a partial timeline of the events in the comic, see Internal Chronology.

For more information on the double-page spreads in this volume, see double-page spreads in Girl Genius.

For more information on special pages in this volume, see the list of special pages, notes, and annotations.

Albia, A Great Many Onlookers, Whoever is in the Submarine
We see a vast chamber that seems to be a ceremonial submarine dock. Banners, which include the Union Jack, are hung above platforms on either side of a channel of water. Albia, who has enlarged herself to titanic size, occupies a higher platform at the back of the scene, fronted by a very broad stairway that extends down to the water. She is wearing armor and bears a trident and a shield emblazoned with a Union Jack. In the central channel, a submarine is approaching the rear dock where Albia is making a speech, welcoming back the submariners. While none of the occupants of the vessel are shown, presumably it contains Agatha and company, members of the Queen's Society Dome Kitchen Staff, Deepdwellers, and so on. On the platforms is a vast crowd of beings gathered to welcome the returning submarine and its occupants. Everyone, except Albia, is drawn to a very small scale, so it is hard to be sure who (or what) they all are, but on the lowest platforms are ranks of what could be soldiers, guards, sailors, and maintenance/support staff. On a higher platform to the left is a crowd of what may be Albia's Octopode subjects . On a similar raised platform to the right, a brass band is playing. On either side of Albia are people who may be courtiers, dignitaries, visitors, important guests, and other VIPs.

Albia, Zentai Ninjas, Sailors, Soldiers(?), Violetta, Martellus, Gil, Agatha, Zeetha, Tarvek, Maxim, Oggie, Honker, Krosp, Dimo, Trelawney, His Serenity, Gooblot
Albia recites the names of those who died and no one who hears her will ever forget them. Agatha and her companions all react to the ceremony in their own ways. His Serenity heads toward his audience with Albia, but is disappointed that the "Lady Heterodyne" is not there (although she is). Gooblot reminds him that she is in her "land form" (that is, no longer in the mermaid costume ). His Serenity acknowledges this, but still seems disappointed. Agatha doesn't care for Zeetha's attempt to help.
Violetta: "What a moving ceremony."
Martellus: "Yes. I…still remember all of their names."
Gil: "My father once mentioned this. Albia spoke their names. We'll remember those names the rest of our lives."
Agatha: "That was amazing."
Zeetha: "That's the power of a Queen."
Tarvek: "Now, how would you duplicate that?"

Martellus, Xerxsephnia (Seffie), Sparafucile, Albia
Marellus and Sparafucile are standing on either side of Seffie, whose identity is completely concealed by a hooded cloak. As Martellus comments that they are no longer where the action is, Albia appears behind them. She is displeased to have Martellus show up without warning. He offers an explanation and apology, saying that they intended to present themselves to Albia when…presentable. Albia demands to know who is under the cloak and removes it. Seffie is revealed with candy in her hair. (It got there due to turbulence on the submarine during breakfast.) Seffie is embarrassed and lies, telling Albia it is a new Parisian fashion. Albia is delighted and invites to her party, insisting that she show off her new hairdo. Seffie doesn't dare refuse the invitation and is distressed and dismayed that she has to keep wearing food in her hair.
Albia: "Princess Xerxsephnia, we presume. Ah—is that—"
Seffie: "Couture de Sucreries, Your Majesty. I have only just come from Paris."
Albia: "Well. You look absolutely charming! You simply must wear it at tonight's celebratory revels."
Seffie: "Me?"
Albia: "Of course! You shall attend as our special guest! Our court is simply insatiable for the new fashions from Paris. They will adore you! For now, Lord Womble will show you to private quarters, where you may refresh yourselves and prepare."
Seffie and Martellus (together): "Thank you, Your Majesty."
Seffie (whispered): "Am I going to have to wear food in my hair all day?"
Martellus (whispered): "The waiters did warn us that the sub was about to launch—"

Zeetha seems to be enjoying herself at Albia's party. She dances with one of the Princesses, then chats with Tarvek, saying she is disappointed that Higgs didn't come. (Higgs is there, posing as a waiter.) Tarvek and Zeetha dance (Zeetha leads, to Tarvek's discomfiture). Tarvek speculates that the members of Agatha's company are being deliberately kept apart; Rakethorn is dancing with Agatha and Trelawney with Gil. Just as Tarvek opines that no one is targeting him, he is greeted by the Muse Orotine.
Tarvek: "Heh. On the other hand, nobody's been coming after me, so I guess I'm not a target…besides, who could they possibly throw at me?"
Orotine: "Pardon me, but are you Tarvek Sturmvarous?"

Although taken aback that they echoed each other, they go off together for said drink. Agatha is besieged by fans who quiz her on the details of the show, which are quite different from what really happened. Agatha manages to escape backstage and meets Abner. She sees Countess Marie helping another player change costume and banters with her, to Abner's displeasure.[27]
Master Payne: "'Ah—but what happens next?!' we hear you cry! Good Gentles, be not despondent! In due course, when you have danced, frolicked and supped, we shall, should it please Her Majesty, return—that you may see how the Lady Heterodyne and her companions fought the ghost of the first Storm King—and sealed him into a magic sword! Don't forget to visit our famous Flea Circus in the East Courtyard."

Agatha, Countess Marie, Vex, Zeetha, Another Member of the Circus, <Albia[29]
Agatha discovers that Zeetha did come backstage, challenging Vex (her portrayer in the play) to a duel, to see if she could really fight. Fortunately, Vex is the Circus's fencing master, so she could. After the surprisingly nondestructive fracas, Vex and Zeetha bonded, drinking together while Zeetha taught Vex Zokka Pokka Zweet, a Skifandrian drinking song. According to Agatha, the song is incredibly obscene and has equally raunchy accompanying hand gestures, which Zeetha hadn't demonstrated yet because her hands were busy holding a bottle and stein. To head off any chance of Zeetha starting up, the Countess has Abner bring the pair more bottles. Marie asks if Agatha has found Skifander. Agatha replies they haven't yet, but she thinks they can. Then she asks the Countess for a favor.
Countess: "But Zeetha seems so much happier now. I remember how she was before you showed up—depressed, worried she might be going mad, wondering if her home even really existed—tell me, did you ever find it?"
Agatha: "Not yet, but we've met people who've heard of it. Albia for one."
Countess: "Why, that's wonderful! But even she doesn't know where it is?"
Agatha: "No. I think we may have a hope of finding it, though."

Trelawney, Tarvek, Gil, Seffie, Other party guests, Princess of the Realm?, Martellus, Orotine
Trelawney accuses Tarvek and Gil of moping, says Albia wouldn't like it, and orders Tarvek to dance with her. Then Seffie sees that Gil is free[30] and asks him to dance. Many couples are dancing, including Martellus and a Princess. As their dance ends, Martellus runs into Orotine, who addresses him by name. Martellus recognizes her as a Muse, explains he is the new Storm King, and asks which Muse she is. After identifying herself, Orotine denies that Martellus's claim to the title is legitimate. Martellus, angered, starts arguing, but then becomes quite ill.
Orotine: "Ah. Martellus von Blitzengaard, I believe."
Martellus: "That's right, and the newly crowned Storm King, in case you were unaware. Which one are you?"
Orotine: "Orotine, Your Highness—and, in the case of the Lightning Crown—you are quite mistaken. Although there is some dispute over which of my Late King's lines should be considered ascendant, you are in neither case the rightful heir."
Martellus: "I have the support of two Popes, and an army!"
Orotine: "You will require more than that."

Countess Marie, Abner, Agatha, Sparafucile[31], Martellus
While Countess Marie ponders her plan, Abner tells Agatha that she's urgently needed outside. Agatha emerges from backstage to hear Sparafucile and Martellus arguing. Martellus needs Agatha's touch immediately, his self-imposed biochemical dependency on her has been retriggered. Agatha reluctantly agrees to help by dancing with Martellus, removing her glove to ensure skin-to-skin contact. She tells him not to get used to it; they are going to fix the problem. He angrily agrees.
Sparafucile: "Sire, it would be simple for me to just subdue her."
Martellus: "Don't be a fool! Even if we weren't right under Albia's nose—I wouldn't let you. I want her to…see me as an…an ally."
Sparafucile: "Oh, yes, and you've charmed her so well already."
Martellus: "I need to work with her."
Sparafucile: "That might be difficult, since she hates you."
Agatha: "I'm not going to say you're wrong, but I'm hardly going to let him cause a scene at an otherwise lovely party."

While dancing with Agatha, Martellus says he wants to start working on the cure that night, but Agatha wants to stay at the party and dance. Martellus is surprised she's not in more of a hurry, but Agatha explains she has her weasel (in her ship-stern bustle) for backup.[32] Martellus reacts with amusement and becomes so agreeable that Agatha becomes suspicious. Krosp encourages her suspicion and he and Martellus start to argue. As the argument grows more heated, Rakethorn asks Agatha to dance and also asks if he can help with her secret plan.
Agatha: "Hmmm…now you're making me suspicious."
Krosp: "Oh, you should be. He's totally up to something. It's obvious."
Martellus: "I resent—"
Krosp: "I can smell it on him."
Martellus: "That is baseless slander!"
Krosp: "Nah. You're nose deep in Europan politics, claiming a contested throne—and you're not up to something? I disbelieve."
Martellus: "This is none of your business cat!"

The argument between Krosp and Martellus becomes even more heated as Krosp points out that Agatha has ditched Martellus for Rakethorn, with whom she is dancing with evident enjoyment. Then Krosp bites Martellus and is flung into a bowl of cheese dip. Krosp realizes that Martellus genuinely likes Agatha, drinks the remaining cheese dip, and continues to needle Martellus, saying that he has no chance because Agatha hates him and that he should go back to conquering Europa; however, since he has tied himself to Agatha with science, Martellus will be dead by Christmas. As Krosp brags that he can think clearly, unlike Martellus, Martellus throws him a fish.
Martellus: "Agatha! Control your pet! Agatha?"
Krosp: "Ha! She's ditched you, chump!"
Martellus: "Confound it. I was trying to be pleasant."
Krosp: "Whoa. Hold on! You actually like her?…Wow! You do! I can tell!"

Gil guesses that she was meant to distract Tarvek; Orotine acknowledges this, but says it didn't work. She also says that she is the Muse of Geometries, but, aside from mathematics, her specialty is shapes and relationships. Gil then, suddenly and surprisingly, asks her for relationship advice.
Orotine: "I am Orotine. Sometimes called the Muse of Geometries."
Gil: "'Geometries.' So basically, mathematics?"
Orotine: "Yes, but my purview encompasses much more than that. I deal in the shapes of things, and their relationships to one another."

Gil maunders on about Agatha to Orotine, asking if he is bad for her. In return, Orotine asks if he thinks he is worse than Tarvek, Tweedle, or Rakethorn. Why Rakethorn? Because he is the only person to dance with Agatha twice. And Tarvek hasn't danced with her once! This snaps Gil out of his funk. At first, he worries about Tarvek but quickly decides that Sturmvarous is merely up to something, as usual. He concludes that Tarvek has maneuvered Orotine into speaking to him and is sure that he will find out about Tarvek's plans soon. When questioned by Orotine, Gil denies that he is concerned about Tarvek, but reluctantly admits to trusting him.
Gil: "Rakethorn? Why do you mention him?"
Orotine: "He is the only person here tonight that she's danced with twice."
Gil: "What? Rakethorn? Really? But—what about Sturmvarous? I thought he'd—"
Orotine: "He has not danced with her at all."
Gil: "Now that's odd. That's really odd. Is he feeling all right?"
Orotine: "Oh? You are concerned for him?"
Gil: "Ha! I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. No, I'm wondering what he's doing that's more important than a chance to cozy up to Agatha."
Orotine: "Any number of things, I would think."
Gil: "Yes, but he wouldn't. I don't think there's much of anything that's more important to him at the moment. No, I'm missing something—but I doubt he is. —And he's already got you working with him. He really is good."
Orotine: "He merely suggested that I speak with you…"
Gil: "Exactly. Well, whatever he's up to, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough."

Agatha, Martellus
Martellus is at a blackboard entirely covered with chemical formulas and strange symbols. Agatha is "sitting" upside down in a chair.[39] They have been trying to solve the problem of how to remove the biochemical dependency between them. They are making no headway with the problem and have reached the point of angry arguments and recriminations.

Zeetha suggests they stop using edged weapons so they can go all out. Bang agrees, but then admits she cheats, and not just because she's a pirate! Zeetha talks about how pirates can use their reputations to mess with people's heads. Bang thinks she means psychology, but Zeetha delivers a head butt to Bang's forehead, knocking her down.
Zeetha: "Yeah, about that—let's switch to bladeless, so we don't have to hold back. These things I got from Albia—they're crazy dangerous. It's hard to keep from actually hurting you."
Bang: "Like I care—but sure! Just remember that I always cheat!"

Bang counterattacks with a head butt to Zeetha's midsection and a knee to the jaw. Zeetha flips into a handstand, kicking Bang's jaw in turn, but Bang is able to grab Zeetha around the hips, holding her upside down, and starts pounding her head into the floor. Bang hesitates, asking Higgs, who is looking on, if he objects to her messing up Zeetha's face. He says he doesn't and, anyway, Zeetha won't let her.
Zeetha (shouted): "Hey, you're not gonna be mad if I mess up your girl's face, are you?"
Higgs: "Nah. I love her."
Dimo: "Ah—dot's sveet!"

It was added for easier navigation within the chronology.
  2. 2.0 2.1 The name of this character is not revealed until the next page .
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5 3.6 Presumably a Princess of England, a (theoretical, at least) successor to Queen Albia of England, and Albia's biological or adopted daughter.
  4. This conversation foreshadows the scene where Agatha asks the Queen to dance during the party that is being discussed, which starts with her running at least a little bit amok.
  5. Only Seffie's voice is heard in the first panel, but she appears in the second.
  6. A magazine or newspaper.
  7. Violetta finally gets to wear a pretty dress to a great big fancy party.
  8. This is the first time that Orotine, one of the legendary Muses created by Van Rijn has appeared in the comic.
  9. 9.0 9.1 "Bellows" is a fan coined name, based on the fact that this character is always bellowing, at least during his few appearances in the comic.
  10. His title is revealed on the next page.
  11. In panel 3, Albia is shown to literally have stars in her eyes, but this could just be the reflection of her halo of stars.
  12. Tarvek was kidnapped by Mister Obsidian at the behest of Seffie so he could be brought to England. He was transported there by Seffie's chum, Captain Jeanne Hawkins, with a few delays.
  13. Pix's identity is revealed on the next page.
  14. We last saw Pix a long time ago. She was (and still is) a member of Master Payne's Circus of Adventure.
  15. The fortune teller's booth/tent that Agatha operated in while she replaced Madame Olga when she had just started traveling with the Circus had a sign outside that said:
    "WHAT IS YOUR FATE?
    MADAME OLGA
    MISTRESS OF THE SCIENCE OF
    TELLURICOMNI VISUALIZATION
    SEES ALL 👁 KNOWS ALL"
It looks like Phil forgot or couldn't squeeze in the final "I" in "TELLURICOMNI" on today's page.
  16. For comparison purposes, here is Master Payne making a very similar introductory speech back when Agatha had just gone into hiding, with help from the his Circus.
  17. 17.0 17.1 17.2 Portraying Zeetha
  18. 18.0 18.1 18.2 Probably portayed by Embi
  19. This is undoubtedly a reference to Saint George and the Dragon; the "England" in the Girl Genius universe apparently shares this legend with the England in the "real world", although probably not in quite the same form. It makes sense that Master Payne would mention it during s performance in Londinium, because Saint George is the Patron Saint of England.
  20. Presumably a bunch of actors from Master Payne's Circus of Adventure, costumed and made up as Jägermonsters.
  21. 21.0 21.1 They young women dancing with Krosp or waiting to do so could be Princesses of the Realm (although they don't have candy in their hair), courtiers, or party guests (presumably the daughters of other royal houses or other important people.
  22. Agatha: "Krosp! You're popular!"
Krosp: "Naturally. I am very cute, and a snappy dresser."
    - Comic page from Monday, June 29, 2020 , panel 4.
  23. Agatha: "I need you to find the kitchens."
    Krosp: "You do love me!"
    - Comic page from Monday, June 29, 2020 , panel 6.
  24. "Nah. They'll just portray me as a pompous martinet who only cares about food." - Comic page from Wednesday, July 1, 2020 , panel 1.
  25. Operating a marionette apparently meant to represent Franz Scortchmaw.
  26. Operating a marionette possibly meant to represent the Doom Bell Ringer.
  27. Countess: "Agatha! Are you here to exact your terrible revenge?"
Agatha: "I'll let you know after the second act!"
Abner: "You two are not nearly as funny as you think you are."
    - Comic page from Monday, July 6, 2020 , panel 10.
  28. Bosco could refer to Bosco Chocolate Syrup or Saint Bosco, the patron saint of illusionists and stage magicians. It is interesting to note that in one of Phil's earlier works involving Buck Godot, The Gallimaufry, Book 7 page 7, a character named Thad says “Thank Bosco they didn’t know when…”. This observation is due to the good memory of Foglio fan 9thGeneral.
  29. In this flashback, Albia has taken on the form of Queen Luheia.
  30. Seffie: "Gil! You're finally free!"
Gil: "Seffie. Yes, I…suppose I am."
    - Comic page from Friday, July 10, 2020 , panel 2.
  31. In panel 2 of this page it is obvious that, based on what is said, Sparafucile speaks first even though she's not shown until panel 3, in which she speaks second.
  32. Violetta: "You've replaced Martellus with a weasel?", volume 13, page 073 (web), panel 4.
  33. Only the arm and hand of the person Agatha is dancing with are shown, but it is most likely Rakethorn since he just asked her to dance on the previous page.
  34. Transylvania Polygnostic University
  35. This character was named Ollie when he was first introduced.
  36. There doesn't seem to be a dish in the real world called "toads in wallets"; however, there is a dish called toad in the hole. In Britain, this is sausages in batter; but in parts of the US, an egg fried in a hole in a piece of bread is called toad in the hole.
  37. 37.0 37.1 This identification was reported on the Girl Genius Facebook page. Hopefully, it will be confirmed in comic.
  38. Probably including Dimo, Oggie, and Maxim. If they aren't in the crowd scene, they are somewhere in the room.
  39. This isn't the first time that Agatha has adopted such a position while trying to concentrate.
  40. In panel 2, it is not entirely clear what the initial letter of the word under "AND" is, but it is shown to be a 'B' in panel 1.
  41. The portrait appears to be part of a family tree.
  42. This name was spelled "Homnomium" when this page was first posted, but was corrected by the time the following page went up.
  43. This character is shown from behind, but the distinctive outfit and hair make it all but certain that this is Orotine.
  44. Zeetha was knocked out by this attack when it was used against her by the Geisterdame Shurdlu on page 021 (web) of Kings and Wizards.
  45. This is a reference to a nonsense poem in the book Davy and the Goblin by Charles E. Carryl (published in 1885). This poem is often sung to the same music as the song Ten Thousand Miles Away. It was recorded by (among others) Natalie Merchant in her 2010 album Leave Your Sleep.
  46. The picture on the scroll or poster is of Albia. You can see some of her hair (the same very light green coloration as when we first saw her), one earring, part of her neck/chin, and one of her halo stars. Her face and the rest of her hair/jewelry/halo is hidden behind the dialog balloon.
  47. The mural depicts the Sun, a partly obscured planet which is most probably Venus, Earth, and Mars. Mercury could be hidden behind the dialog balloon that partly obscures Venus and the rest of the planets are out of panel.
  48. "200" seems to be the room number.
  49. 49.0 49.1 Apparently, Karl Thotep is in the large, transparent enclosure full of bluish-white amorphous radiance, even though he is currently not visible.
  50. There is a character resembling Violetta in the upper far-left corner of the page. There is another Spark or lab technician near her.
  51. This may be a reference to the character named Morbius from the Doctor Who franchise or possibly Doctor Michael Morbius from Marvel Comics.
  52. The sound effect in panel 3 is obscured by dialog balloons, so this attempt to reconstruct it may be incorrect.
  53. Karl Thotep is completely obscured by the mist or vapor that is released when the door of the containment unit opens in panel 3 (the first panel he is present in) on (page 89, (web). He is barely visible in the final panel of the same page. Only a pair of irregular oval spots, presumably eyes, can be seen.
  54. 54.00 54.01 54.02 54.03 54.04 54.05 54.06 54.07 54.08 54.09 54.10 54.11 54.12 54.13 54.14 54.15 54.16 54.17 54.18 54.19 54.20 54.21 54.22 54.23 54.24 54.25 54.26 54.27 54.28 54.29 54.30 54.31 54.32 MSS = "Mechanicsburg Solstice Story: Page …" The pages in this holiday story break are numbered separately from the main story pages.
  55. The letters seems to be "SKU" but it is hard to be sure. The upper loop of the 'S' is collapsed in the lettering on the window. On the sign above, the lettering is larger and clearer, but it is obscured by a string of holiday lights.
  56. This dish would seem to be related to Chicken paprikash (Hungarian: paprikás csirke), although it wouldn't be surprising if the Mechanicsburg version featured snails instead of chicken.
  57. This phrase seems to complete the final dialog balloon in the final frame of this page of the comic.
  58. There doesn't seem to be much information about this Bavarian midwinter celebration available in English on the World Wide Web, but here is a bit of information about the tradition and the masks.
  59. The Professors may have spelled this wrong. The only hits on the World Wide Web are for Tshäggättä, a Swiss midwinter celebration.
  60. The last part of the second word, in square brackets, is a slightly educated guess.
  61. Flashback from well before the time of the Heterodyne Boys.
  62. 62.0 62.1 Flashback from the time of the Heterodyne Boys.
  63. 63.0 63.1 63.2 63.3 Flashback from after the time of the Heterodyne Boys.
  64. 64.0 64.1 Street in Mechanicsburg.
  65. 65.0 65.1 65.2 Waiting to see the Jägerstomp.
  66. This character is shown on the next page, A Mechanicsburg Solstice Story, page 008, panel 1, and his name is given on the page after that, page 009, panel 3.
  67. This character's name is revealed on the next page, A Mechanicsburg Solstice Story, page 009, panel 7.
  68. This page is the left half of a double-page spread.
  69. Dimo is standing to the to the left of Maxim, from the standpoint of someone viewing the page. His face is partly obscured by a dialog balloon, making him hard to spot.
  70. The novel The Fifth Son of the Shoemaker is about Pytor Mestravvik, son of shoemaker Ivan Mestravvik.
  71. The line rendered as "Mechanicsburg" is a partly a guess. The lettering isn't very clear.
  72. This page is the right half of a double-page spread. You can view the whole thing by following this elegant and finely-crafted link.
  73. This page was misnumbered as 018 when it was originally posted.
  74. There seem to be silhouettes of menacing figures in the foreground of panel 3, possibly members of the crowd shown in the final panel of the next page. .
  75. The unseen speaker in the last panel of this page is shown to be Plumm in the first panel of the next one.
  76. Probably not the same as Ol' Man Death.
  77. The full phrase is almost impossible to make out in the comic page proper, but Kaja re-posted the last panel without dialog balloons to Patreon, which allows a much better view of the text.
  78. Clytemnestra Narcia Gearmacher's name is not revealed until the next page.
  79. Snagmar's name is not revealed until the next page.
  80. Only Clytemnestra Narcia Gearmacher's voice is heard in the first panel but she is seen in the final panel of the page for Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
  81. Castle Heterodyne manifests itself on this page by manipulating a statue and just makes a "shushing" gesture without any dialog.
  82. Ignitheus Plumm once asked Saint Nicolae for a six-legged pony named "Igor" as a Solstice gift, presumably during his childhood.
  83. Castle Heterodyne seems to manifest itself on this page by using the same statue as before, this time just making its eyes glow red. Presumably, this indicates that it is seeing (and hearing) everything going on in this scene.
  84. Since Professoresse Kaja Foglio is the speaker here, presumably Transylvania Polygnostic University is meant.
  85. Possibly a Jägermonster.
  86. This word should presumably be MUNICIPAL.
  87. The lettering on the manhole cover is hard to read and appears to have an error or two, but "MUNICIPAL WORKS" seems to be a reasonable guess.
  88. There are two large bipedal reptilian things apparently spraying water on the warehouse fire. They seem to have hoses connected to their tails, so they are presumably clanks or at least mechanisms of some kind.
  89. The "librery" in "MECHANICSBURG LIBRERY" is a guess that it might be a typo for "library". There are few, if any, words ending with "rery" or "reby" that make sense in context and Phil has made errors in the spelling of words on signs in his art before, on more than one previous occasion.
  90. The people responsible for pulling Kjarl Thotep from his native higher dimension into that of the (pathetically four-dimensional) world of Girl Genius. These are the same people who built the temple that was under the the Queens' Society dome.
  91. Alex Island: This is probably named after the Folgios' younger child, Alex, AKA Experiment No. 2.
  92. Ant Island: Perhaps someone in the Foglio family is a fan of one of Pixar's less appreciated films, A Bug's Life, much of which is set on "Ant Island".
  93. Islands of the Rats/Rat Island: For those who think "mures" (singular "mus", mouse) means mice exclusively, the Ancient Romans did not generally differentiate between rats and mice, instead referring to the former as mus maximus (big mouse) and the latter as mus minimus (little mouse).
  94. Kong Island: Although generally known as Skull Island, the home of King Kong is referred to as "Kong Island" is some media incarnations.
  95. Nothing Island/No Island
  96. Island of Monsters/Monster Island: The name Monster Island has been used in several contexts, perhaps most famously as a fictional location in the Godzilla series. And, of course Mechanicsburg possesses its very own Tiny Monster Island.
  97. Each island name has been preceded by the emoji for desert island (🏝: a palm tree on a small island) in unicode. If you see a question mark, box, or other odd symbol instead, your browser may not support the display of the graphic for this character. Please comment on the talk page for this article if it isn't displaying properly for you.
  98. Ariadne is listed second because the disembodied dialog balloon in panel one is obviously hers so she speaks before Pierre, even though the first time she is shown speaking, it is after Pierre has already spoken.
  99. 99.0 99.1 Orotine and Krosp aren't shown speaking on this page, but the conversation that is going on in the captions on the page is obviously a continuation of the conversation they were having on the previous page.
  100. 100.0 100.1 Even though you can't "hear" Gil and Tarvek speaking in the first panel of this page, Gil is shown speaking while Tarvek isn't, so Gil is listed first.
  101. Eroteme means a question mark.
  102. Although Albia is not shown on the page for Monday, March 22, 2021 , the disembodied dialog balloon in panel 1 is obviously a continuation of what she is saying on the previous page, so her name is listed first.
  103. That the "it" referred is definitely Prende's Lantern is confirmed on the next page.
