Girl Genius
Volume summary: Kings and Wizards

The chronology pages describe the comics to assist scholars in finding the page on which something occurred. For each page of the comic, the chronology pages identify the characters that appear, actions taken, significant quotes, and other things of interest. Page numbers from the website are zero padded to three digits and in parentheses, for example: (005), (061), (113). Page numbers from print volumes are neither, for example: 5, 61, 113. Section titles are from the canon unless otherwise noted.

For historical reasons, volumes 1 (I) through 13 (XIII) are usually identified with Roman numerals on the Girl Genius chronology pages and elsewhere in the wiki. From volume 14 on, the story entered a new "act" and the volume numbers started over, in Arabic numbers, proceeded by a "2-". For example, overall volume 15 is given as volume 2-2 on chronology pages.

For a partial timeline of the events in the comic, see Internal Chronology. For more information on the double-page spreads in this volume, see double-page spreads in Girl Genius. For more information on special pages in this volume, see the list of special pages, notes, and annotations.

Seffie, Martellus, Lab Technician
Martellus would rather use Science to investigate why the sword of the Storm King is showing strange electrical activity than go to the party Grandma is throwing in his honor, but Seffie insists that he stop working and get ready for the party.
Martellus: "A party?! Nonsense! Look! The Sword of the Storm King is actually reacting to something! I've got to find out why! Just tell Grandma I can't possibly go to a party now!"
Seffie: "Listen to me, my darling brother—if you do not get dressed right now—I will strangle you myself to spare Grandma's aged fingers!"

Note from Kaja Foglio at the bottom of the image on the Girl Genius website: "This week, Phil and I had our orange belt test for Kenpo…and somehow, between the punching, shouting, and tired muscles, we never managed to get Monday's page sorted out. We did, however, earn our belts, and also got this drawing prepped to share with you all. So it wasn't a total wash. If you like the lovely European Christmas Monsters, we've got a new shirt over at Offworld featuring the Krampus. Then the whole Krampus thing hit the States...we had no idea! Now it's been years, and we still haven't gotten around to telling that story, and the story of how Mechanicsburg kept its traditions all that time when there wasn't a Heterodyne in town, but we'll get there someday. Tarvek, Costumed Party Guest, Colette(!)
Tarvek looks on as Simon Voltaire destroys Andronicus Valois's weapons.[21] To save her father from being killed outright by the enormous amount of energy he had to channel to accomplish this, Colette manages to channel some of it herself. She channels enough energy, in fact, to surround herself with a glowing aura and to cause her clothing and hair to smolder and start to burn. Tarvek objects that her efforts are hurting her, but Colette brushes off his concerns and states that she is gaining vast amounts of knowledge.
Tarvek: "The—the Platonic Solid and Archimedes' Lever—your father just melted them! But the power he'd have to—oh. He—he's…drained the city. The whole city. Uh…Colette? How is he doing that? All that power—even he—"
Colette: "Yes. The stubborn old fool—this is far too much for him. He knows that. What he just did nearly killed him—and he doesn't even seem to care. The only reason he's alive at all is that I've worked out how to share some of the power. It's taking everything I've got—but I can hold it for him. Keep him safe."
Tarvek: "—But it's hurting you!"
Colette: "Not too much. Not yet. —And, Tarvek…I'm learning. I'm learning everything."

Drusus Beausoleil, Colette
Beausoleil clamps his hands over his ears to shut out the sound of Paris "screaming"[22] and commands the noise to stop. When it does, however, he is not reassured; but filled with a sense of foreboding. This feeling is almost immediately justified when an extremely angry Colette appears, her clothing in tatters and surrounded by a coruscating electrical nimbus, with an ominous warning.
[Sirens, buzzers, and bells are all clamoring at once.]
Beausoleil: "Aaah! Shut up!"
[All of the noise stops.]
Beausoleil: "…Ah—oh, dear. …Why does this not seem like a good thing?"
Colette: "Think of it—as a final moment of sanity."

Drusus Beausoleil, Colette
Beausoleil greets Colette with surprise and trepidation, but almost immediately adopts an air of bravado and warns her to not overexert herself. An angry Colette's only response is to snap her fingers. This is immediately followed by a series of scenes showing all of Beausoleil's bodies being destroyed in a remarkable (and noisy) variety of ways. Not only that, but each of these "deaths" is experienced by the apparently last Beausoleil, near Colette.
Beausoleil: "My—my bodies! You destroyed them—and I felt every one…"

Drusus Beausoleil, Colette
Beausoleil recovers enough of his his aplomb to tauntingly tell Colette that his true body is still safe, but Colette doesn't care because she has foiled his traitorous plot and avenged her father's death. She destroys Beausoleil's final body in Paris, blowing it to smithereens, and declares that Paris is her city now and she will defend it.
Beausoleil: "Heh. But you still haven't got all of me… my true body is no longer in Paris-"
Colette: "The Devil may take your true body, you nasty little traitor. You thought you could kill my father and take his city for your masters? What, I wonder, will they do to you, now that you have failed?"
Beausoleil: "Oh…ah."
Colette: "You are not important enough to waste any more of my time. Get out. Paris is mine—and I will defend it."

Colette
Colette stands with her arms spread and raised and her legs apart, her back to the viewer. She is nearly completely naked, with just some remaining scraps of clothing covering strategic areas. Her hair is levitating in the aureole emanating from her, which is sending a glowing streamer into the sky. Answering luminous tendrils are rising from the tallest points of the surrounding buildings. Foreboding light fills the sky as Colette utters ominous words.
Colette: "Now, to begin—"

Zola[23], Grandmother
Zola looks out at Colette's light show over Paris. Grandmother brags about her party, then she and Zola have a chat.
Zola: "Uh oh."
Grandmother: "Ho! Did I say, 'Party of the Year?' Ha! Party of the Century!"
Zola: "Ah…Your Highness—I—"
Grandmother: "Oh, yes. Well, it's not so good for you, now, is it Miss Zola?"
Zola: "Oh, surely they'll still let me sing…I'm booked at the Opera House for a week!"
Grandmother: "Ha! Very good my dear. But don't bother. Young Colette is no fool—and neither, I think, are you. The way she is now, she'll deduce your place in this scheme if you so much as make a peep—and when she does—she'll destroy you! You've lost this round. Just accept it."
Zola: "But—"
Grandmother: "Tch— Don't feel bad. You've done very well! Why, I'll bet you've got most of Paris all primed and ready to fall at your feet—don't you?— And it took two Storm Kings, two Masters of Paris, and a Heterodyne to slow you down. No, no, you just hold your cards close and wait. I've got you now, my girl—and I'll get you out of here."

Agatha, Wee Beastie, Agatha's Wasp eater, Child Apprehension Unit 148-Silver, Colette (controlling and speaking through the Child Collector)
Agatha and the Wee Beastie are seated on the shoulder of the Child Collector that Agatha hijacked with the help of the Portable Castle and the Beast. The alarms stop. The Beast announces there is a new Master. Colette assumes control of the Collector in a somewhat noisy and flashy manner, startling Agatha and the Beast, then speaks to both of them through it.
Agatha: "Ah—the alarms have stopped. Is the Master…"
Beast: "There is a New Master. The void has been filled."
Agatha: "Whoa!"
Beast: "Yoiks!"
Colette: "Ah—bonsoir, chérie! Tsk—I take my eyes off you for but a minute, and you begin to subvert the workings of my city. Papa did say you Heterodynes couldn't keep out of mischief if you tried."
Agatha: "Colette?"
Beast: "Insolence! You are alive and sane only because of the assistance of my Mistresses[24] Castle Unit!"
Colette: "Oh, yes—your little friend has been a magnificent help."

Colette announces her father's death to the assembled crowd, and assumes control of Paris. Tarvek provides Colette an outfit suitable for the well-dressed city, then leaves before Agatha can see him dressed as a jester, only to be intercepted by Mister Obsidian.
[Colette, now completely naked, speaks to a crowd.]
Colette: "My friends. The Master of Paris—Simon Voltaire—my father—is dead. As of now—I am Paris. I will…. [As an aside to Tarvek.] …What are you doing?"

  2. This page is numbered 017, but that is almost certainly an error; it should be page 005. The previous page was numbered 004, and the following one 006.
  3. It is hard to distinguish whether the character on top of the coach with Dimo is Malek or Varpa on this page because the figure is drawn so small, but he is clearly shown to be Malek on the next page.
  4. The other Geister is later identified as Eotain , who identifies Shurdlu in turn.
  5. This page is numbered 017, but that is almost certainly an error; it should be 019. There has already been a page 017, the previous page was numbered 018, and the following one 020. This is not the first time a page has been given the number 017 by mistake.
  6. Presumably the previously mentioned Aetheric Collector Array .
  7. This seems to be a tribute to a Charles Addams cover for The New Yorker magazine from October 30, 1989. This cover shows a pumpkin in a pumpkin patch on a moonlit night, also being carved into a jack-o-lantern from the inside.
  8. 8.0 8.1 8.2 8.3 8.4 8.5 8.6 8.7 Although this is a non-canon section, it is considered to be an important navigation item, so it has been promoted to the same heading level as the canonical sections.
  9. Shurdlu seems to be spelled Shrdlu, just for this single page.
  10. This is probably a reference to an animated cartoon called "La Petite Parade" (1959), part of the Modern Madcaps series produced by Famous Studios.
  11. (Zeetha later uses the attack on Bang, who helps her develop a counter .)
  12. This page is numbered 017, but that is almost certainly an error; it should be page 026. The preceding page was numbered 025 and the following one 027. This is not the first time a page has been given the number 017 by mistake.
  13. Ferretina is the titular villain in the Revenge of the Weasel Queen. Near the end of the story, the Fashion clank invites her to come with it to "Paris, where we will found a salon that will redefine haute couture for the next thousand years!"
  14. The Martellus cheese statue is described as such on the next page.
  15. Oggie and Maxim take off their cunning Jäger disguises later on .
  16. On the page for Wednesday, December 21, 2016, panel 3, a small, impish creature holding on to the cape of a character dressed as Sephiroth is saying, "Bells, frogs, big cherries, Peter Pan, magic cheese", which is a reference to the musical theme that plays during battles with Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII. The actual lyrics are in Latin, but English-speaking players have come up with many versions of what the lyrics sound like in English. "Bells, frogs, big cherries, Peter Pan, magic cheese, Sephiroth!" is perhaps the most popular of these "alternate lyrics".
  17. Saint Fosse is probably a reference to Bob Fosse, a well-known choreographer of Broadway and Hollywood musicals.
  18. "Wankel" on the dirigible's engine pods may refer to the Wankel engine.
  19. Zola's last appearance was in the Great Hospital , being rapidly healed. "If I can… heal… faster than they expect-"
  20. As mentioned later , control of the Child Collector is passed to the Beast after Agatha offers the Portable Castle's help to Colette .
  21. Based on Tarvek's observations, the events on this page are taking place at about the same time as the actions on this previous page, although in a different location.
  22. The phrase "the City is screaming" was used by Beausoleil on page 101, panel 5, to refer to all of the bells, buzzers, sirens, and other alarms in Paris going off all at once.
  23. The Queen of the Dawn has taken off her mask, revealing herself to be Zola, confirming Tarvek's previous identification of her.
  24. This apparently should be "Mistress's Castle Unit".
  25. The sound effect from panel 2 may not be transcribed accurately; it is extremely hard to read because part of it is obscured by a dialog balloon and it is transparently superimposed over a complex background.
