Fate

Given that a good number of the statements directly referring to the Castle, such as "it never lands", "have Captain Patel scuttle the castle", and "the castle is in flames, and I've lost my hat" have an eschatological character (especially compared to aphorisms common in American English such as "what goes up must come down" and "the bigger they are, the harder they fall") one wonders if the end of Castle Wulfenbach will eventually form a climax to a future volume, act, or indeed, the whole story. (We won't discuss Castle Heterodyne's comments in relation to that last clause, okay?)

• The print novel Agatha H. and the Siege of Mechanicsburg includes a throwaway line that somewhat more explicitly hints that the Castle' metaphorical lifespan may be shorter rather than longer.

If we assume that the Baron's zeppelins that descended on Sturmhalten are roughly analogous in size to actual zeppelins, the best comparison would probably be the Schütte-Lanz SL11 that bombed London in 1916, which was 174m in length. Alternatively, the largest flying machine ever built, the LZ 129 Hindenberg, was 245m in length. Let's be conservative and use the SL11; if we consider this the baseline for the non-castle airships that are always seen as satellites around the Castle, then, well... • This ✣ page gives a snapshot of the Castle that is in my screen (at 143% - bad eyes) exactly 100 mm long, and is surrounded by airships, in close proximity; the closest to it are exactly 4mm long. So 174 x (100/4) = 4350 meters. Yep. Long castle is long.AuthYY (talk) 17:20, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
