One of the most temperamental of the vehicles employed by Master Payne's Circus of Adventure, Baba Yaga was a wagon on mechanical legs. She was apparently difficult to drive, constantly needing maintenance or refueling, and had a tendency to lean to one side when left standing for any length of time. However, she also produced eggs which the Circus needed ✣ , so it was kept and given to the "newbie".
Agatha, as the newest member of the Circus, had to drive her (at least Agatha got to bunk solo, not counting Krosp). Agatha's plans for improvements were taken up by Dingbots, who eventually incorporated her into the Battle Circus.
The resulting Baba Yaga clank was able to fly, and successfully dispatched ✣ several Hoomhoffers before crashing when Agatha's control-music was cut off. She happened to fall right on top ✣ of the Baron, effectively ending the battle.
Possibly relevant outside information[]
Baba Yaga is the name of a witch who appears in the folklore of many Eastern Slavic cultures (Russian, Polish, and Ukrainian, among others). She rides a mortar propelled by a pestle and has a house perched on chicken legs. The wagon is thus apparently named in her honor.
The "we need the eggs" line comes from an old joke. As told in Annie Hall:
- This guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs."
